FSSI has introduced a dedicated social work intern position to assist students undertaking its Certificate III and IV qualifications to deal with issues that are impacting on their studies.
Joanne Chee, 27, a final year social work student, is the first intern to take on the role, which will involve talking to students about the challenges they may be facing.
‘RMIT actually has a lot of supports available that they may not know about,’ Joanne says, These include childcare, chaplaincy and the Jobs Shop, which can assist them with their resume.
FSSI also has a strong relationship with Wear for Success, a not-for-profit organisation that provides students with a fitting session and professional clothes for job interviews.
Teacher Lola Nicolouleas says the new social work role is part of FSSI’s commitment to assisting students to overcome any barriers to study.
FSSI provides scholarships that enable students to gain a Certificate III in Individual Support and Certificate IV in Disability at no cost. See our website for details and to apply.
