In October 2017, FSSI partnered with RMIT’s Centre for People, Organisations and Work to co-sponsor a visit by internationally renowned researcher Professor Sue Yeandle. Professor Yeandle – who is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Centre for International Research on Care, Labour and Inequality (CIRCLE) at the University of Sheffield, UK – undertakes research on policies and practices which affect caring roles over the lifecourse, carers and their support needs, the paid care workforce and comparative international perspectives on care. Professor Yeandle is the Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Care and Caring.
On 12 October 2017, Professor Yeandle headlined a symposium entitled “Conceptions of Care – Feminist approaches and gendering care”. The symposium – which was well attended by academics, social service leaders and Experts by Experience – produced a lively audience discussion alongside a panel of experts which included Sophie Ismail (ACTU), Anne Muldowney (Carers Victoria) and Jen Hargave (Women with Disability Victoria).
