Family, friends, teachers and the FSSI team celebrated the students’ work, and reflected on the opportunities they now have before them in Australia’s fastest growing jobs sector, the social service workforce.

Our students are now equipped to take on a range of rewarding roles – in disability support, personal care, home care, school support, family support and accommodation support.

Many spoke of how the course had opened up new pathways for them, helped them change careers, or reinforced their dream of working to support people to live full and rewarding lives.

Graduate Serena Emary summed up the students’ experiences and aspirations.

“We’ve got pretty diverse career aspirations and future directions, but I felt throughout the year we all had one thing in common. We all wanted to work in a sector that cares for people, where we can show compassion, respect and do something meaningful.

“I think we’re going to make a positive difference within our fields, whichever ones we choose.”

Tianne Kaleda said for years after graduating from high school she had been uncertain of her career path, until studying the Cert III.

Tianne Kaleda (centre) receives her certificate from RMIT Program Coordinator Gwen Cawsey, VCOSS CEO Emma King, FSSI Deputy Director Sally Thompson and FSSI Director David Hayward.

“I just fell in love with it. I thought with this I’d want to go into nursing, but after finishing this course and doing the work experience I’ve actually decided I want to specialise in the area more. I want to look into more pathways as to how I can be in the disability and aged care sector and contribute a lot more down that path.”

FSSI congratulates all our 2017 Cert III graduates and wishes everyone the best in their future careers.

Thanks for being part of our inaugural Cert III Scholarship class!
